Navigator North worked in partnership with Creative Darlington and The Bridge Centre for Visual Arts to present…

Saturday 9th Nov was our first ever Trash ‘n’ Treasure event. This was an idea we came up with which had been bubbling away in the background for some time. Following on from our involvement with The Festival of Thrift in September, where we led on elements of the visual arts activity and helped shaped that event, we thought we’d continue the thrifty vibe and after talking to Creative Darlington and The Bridge in Darlington, we decided to collaborate and make it happen there.

The event was intended to be part art car boot sale, part creative jumble sale, all with a social side where people could have a laugh and meet other artists.

On the morning of the event we had stallholders arrive with cars full of all kinds of ‘treasure’. From art teachers who had cleaned out their cupboards to artists having a clear out, everyone had something interesting on their stall.

Buyers on the day could sit in the ‘pop-up’ café and have a cup of tea and a piece of cake whilst showing each other what goodies they’d managed to find and snap up. Our ‘Tales of Trash ‘n’ Treasure’ board had some great comments on from visitors.

With approx. 100 visitors during the event we’ve already had loads of requests to run the event again from both visitors and stallholders.
