Navigator North are proud to present our latest exhibition Give/Receive – opening at The Masham Saturday 15th October to Saturday 26th November 2022.
Featuring ‘The Exchange’ – a public participatory art installation created by Layla Khoo as part of a 12 month residency, developed with Tees Valley Arts as part of Celebrating Hidden Middlesbrough. The installation, first shown at Commerce House in Exchange Square just a few weeks ago, invites the viewer to make a unique exchange – a day of volunteer time to a Middlesbrough based charity in return for a share in the artwork and a piece of it to take home.
Looking to the past, the exhibition also includes selected postcards reproduced from private collections, which give an insight into the industrial past and philanthropy which helped shape the town’s Historic Quarter. Archival material from Teesside Archives, Heritage Unlocked and The Middlesbrough History Project uncover initiatives such as Middlesbrough Winter Garden, Distress Dinners and NHS funding campaigns designed to support health and wellbeing in the town.
Celebrating Hidden Middlesbrough is led by Navigator North working in partnership with Middlesbrough Cultural Partnership, Middlesbrough Council and Historic England.
